From the pages of Southern Flourish:
We love Washington, D.C. for its great mix of Northern and Southern style — and we love Emily Wall, the blogger behind DC Here Now for capturing the eclectic style of the city’s residents.
We were so inspired by Emily’s photos that we asked Birmingham-based home decor store and online boutique Moxii to put together three bedrooms based on some of our favorite shots from DC Here Now. Were they up for the challenge? You better believe it!

We spotted a few of our favorite bloggers donning clothes similar to moxii’s style. The patterns and colors remind us of our new pillow collection – interesting patterns with a touch of sophistication.

After months of dreaming and shopping, you finally get to see your vision come to life in your new space! This is the most exciting part for us as it is for you. We love being a part of move-in day with you! For some of you, it’s the first time away from home, and that’s why we strive to make your room as comfortable and personal as possible.
Below are pictures of a dorm room at Auburn University. From headboard and pillows to window panels and shower curtain, this space is completely customized.

Get a better view of our bedding collections with our new stylebook. These collections are a new addition to moxii this year and have been popular among our customers. They leave out the guess work when creating a bed. This year when you see a look you love, you can actually buy exactly what’s in the picture!
Each collection features a unique look. Our featherweights are among the many items in our collections. These featherweights are hand-blocked by artisans and only a select number are made. Therefore, you are guaranteed a one-of-a-kind look.
From dorm room to mater suite, you are sure to find one to fit your style and personality!
We at moxii encourage you to reflect your personality in your bedroom style, whether it’s soft florals or pops of bold color.
We asked Brittany, our social media girl, to create an outfit, which reflects her personal style and translate it into her dream bedroom with moxii.
Her Take On “Outfit to Room”
In clothing, I am drawn to feminine styles and vintage floral patterns. I also love anything trendy. Lace is very popular right now. I am not much of an accessory girl, but I do like small earings and a scarf. To me, they serve as the perfect pieces to complete an outfit. I also like solids in an outfit because they are great basics. By mixing and matching scarves and cardigans, you can create different looks and multiple outfits. If you couldn’t tell, I like practicality, too.
If I could live in a dream world, I would have a clean, crisp room with a soft cream or white quilt and pops of color with decorative pillows. However, I have a cute little dog who likes to cuddle in the bed; so for now, I’ll just keep dreaming.
My dream bedroom would have a solid quilt, and I would add my personal style with the pillows. This way, I could easily change the look by adding pillows and throws. Affordable, practical, and fun! What can I say?
Even if I can’t have my white dream bedroom now, I can still have fun with decorative pillows like the Pink Back Bay Pillow.
Hope you enjoyed my take on “Outfit to Room.”

Whether you love a touch of whimsy or sophistication in your space, moxii’s new decorative pillows are sure to be a match!
As you may know, our decorative pillows are truly unique. Some are hand-stitched and moxii one-of-a-kind’s. If you’re looking to brighten your place without breaking your budget, try adding a few pillows to give it a fresh look.
We are so excited to share with you our very first stylebook! Let’s face it; everyone is not an interior designer, so it helps to have a visual. Our purpose with the stylebook is to give you inspiration in styling your own bed and space.
While we will have several stylebooks in the future, including our adult linens, we thought we’d give you the first peek of our college collections of 2011.

We have a new section on our blog called “Ask Kat.” If you have design related question, we encourage you to ask Katherine Bailey, co-owner and interior designer.
Below is one of our first questions from a customer who asked how to complete the look of her bed.
Q: Hey Kat! I recently purchased a few pieces from moxii that I adore – the khaki Ruched Quilt, Birds on a Limb pillow, and the rust Woven pillows. But my bed doesn’t look complete. I need help creating a bed with moxii style.
A: Thanks for asking this question! The moxii style looks effortless yet pulled together, but there are a few key elements to keep in mind when creating this style.
Below are a few tips that I always remind myself of when creating a bed for a customer or for myself.
How to Create a moxii Style Bed:
- Choose a pillow, quilt or rug as your inspirational piece. Use three coordinating colors from your inspirational piece to work with.
- Add a solid, basic quilt like the Classic Quilt or Ruched as your foundation. When choosing a solid, it allows you to be more creative with pillows and throws and is also a timeless piece.
- Angle three euro’s across the back for a queen size bed (two for a twin). I suggest two matching and one patterned. Angling the pillows creates interest and unpredictability.
- Next, add 1-2 standard pillows.
- Make sure one standard or euro is the same texture and color as your quilt, which will bring your bed’s look together. While choosing pillows, keep your coordinating colors in mind.
- Add at least two decorative pillows. An 18 x 18 or 20 x 20 with a long narrow one are the perfect additions.
- At the bottom of the bed, place a featherweight, making sure that it coordinates with your three colors. The Ajuana Peach featherweight would add color to your bed and go great with the khaki and rust colors that you already have.
The moxii style isn’t complicated or fussy. The key element to creating this look are layers and textures. Stay away from being too “matchy-matchy” and most of all, have fun! Be sure to match your style to your personality!
