Known for its propensity to calm, blue can actually lower pulse rate and body temperature.  (Perhaps it is the stress that drives me to the color!)

Regardless of its health benefits, all shades of blue can add punch to a wall color, a piece of pottery, a settee, and bedding.  Here are a few of my personal favorites:

FYI- I spied a pair of peacock blue chairs in velvet the other day.  I should probably get them— for the health benefits of course.

So go ahead and be blue.   After all, in the spirit of the old adage, it may help you to “Keep Calm and Carry On.”

That’s right you heard it- moxii is going green — but in a new kind of way.   In conjunction with East Alabama Living Magazine and Homeworks of Alabama, moxii will be involved in the first ever Alabama Power EarthCents home. *

This year’s East Alabama showcase home meets industry standards for an energy efficiency home.  The best part is —-drum roll please—– it is located right here in East Lake Subdivision in Auburn, Alabama!

So we’re thinking green around here, — but not exclusively green— because we have added a dash of blue, definitely some citron,  a row or two of antique nail heads,  a little sparkle here and there and the tiniest bit  of—— well  how about you take a peek at our progress?

So many choices, where to start?!

What are you most looking forward to right now?

My baby girl’s arrival in June! And I can’t wait decorate her nursery.

How exciting! Is the nursery one of the creative projects you’re working on?  

I found my mother’s birth announcement from when she was born and had it framed for our nursery. I love sentimental things like that and it’s so vintage!

For the nursery, I’m doing light green walls and all white (mostly vintage) furniture and all white linens and curtains and a tiny touch of pale pink for accent, maybe a in a pillow or rug.

What’s your favorite color? How do you like to use it?

My colors change every few years in my house. Two years ago, I loved greens. Now I’m in love with a Wedgewood gray-blue color—sort of a smoky light blue. I especially love it in linen fabric and with whitewashed furniture, paired with a “driftwood” look…very casual, beach-cottage style! (I really just want a beach house.) And I also love everything Aidan Gray, my favorite designer right now.

What’s your absolute favorite moxii product?

Practically speaking, I love Dash & Albert rugs. They are made for high traffic areas and homes with dogs, and are machine washable. Finally a rug that fits my lifestyle!

My favorite pretty products are the mercury glass candle sticks! I’m completely in love with them. And I love the Lafco candles, “beach house” is my favorite scent. (surprise, surprise!)…and “ski house” too, for winter months.

What’s your favorite part of working at moxii?  

My favorite part is helping guests pick out gifts for others, but I also love helping design a new bed just as much. I’d venture to say I’m pretty good at working with those with tight budgets like me!

Any personal decorating wisdom you want to share?

Find a print fabric you absolutely love and then build the room around it—especially a geometric print.  I just got a fabulous new light blue quatrefoil print fabric for my dining room chairs, and I found beautiful crewel curtains at moxii that work perfectly with my new fabric!

But it’s officially finished after you roll out a rug or strategically place a throw or pillow. They tie the room together.

We love these “hear/see/speak no evil” owl figures! They add a whimsical touch to the table, along with cool colors.

These studded mercury glass votives splash a little brightness on a table, windowsill or counter.

Spring is coming so quickly…and so is vacation. We incorporated an orange color palette with the different wood elements to create a warm lake house vignette.

Vintage vases or milk bottles of all shapes and sizes filled with decor from your yard are inexpensive and provide a unique look.  Sticks, acorns, branches of turning leaves and even goldenrod’s can be beautiful in a vase.

Below is a table designed by our interior designer, Katherine Bailey, in her home which was featured in last year’s Birmingham Magazine. Katherine mentions that teal is a trendy color this year and can easily be transitioned into Christmas by adding cypress, magnolia and ornaments on the limbs.
