One of the best ways to dress up a dull space is to get creative with some very ordinary things, like curtains for example. Have you every had to hang curtains over a window, only to find that your cute curtains would be left hanging over a foot above the floor? Well, instead of making the mistake of just leaving them dangling awkwardly above the floor, get creative!

Design Tip #1: Moxii suggests pairing solid panels with decorative table runners, yes, table runners! The width of most table runners makes for a perfect band at the end of a short curtain panel and will most likely add just the right amount of length so that your curtains can “kiss” the floor. Not only does it add a great touch to the bottom of your curtain panels, but it also allows you to raise your window treatment higher above the window, adding more visual height to a room. We even decided to leave the fringe on! It ads a stylish touch!

The next time you run into a curtain dilemma, remember that short panels can be saved and in a very creative way!

Design Tip #2: Moxii suggests making use of those big empty walls by creating a picture frame grid. We did this simply by taking decorative paper and placing each piece in a matching frame and lining the wall. You can also use decorative fabric, pictures, plant leaves, or anything that displays a coordinating look in the frames. You can also use frames with mats for a little bit different look. We decided to go with 12″ x 12″ frames for this project so that we would not have to cut the paper sizes down, which helped us complete this project in about 30 minutes! We also suggest planning out your grid on the floor before the hanging begins so that you have a better idea of how your pictures will flow (but you can still switch it up on the wall). Also, it is easier to measure out your grid on the wall before you hang the pictures, so you can ensure that each frame is the correct distance apart. We also suggest using a level and a ruler so that your frames won’t fall to one side.

Research suggests that color can affect your mood, emotions, and in some cases actually improve your health.  While you are away at college, it is important to choose your dorm colors wisely because this is the place where you will spend a lot of time studying and hanging out with friends.  Since colors can influence your mood and thoughts, it’s a good idea to pick colors based on your personality.  Here is a list of some colors and how they might affect you:

Yellow is welcoming and cheerful, it captures the joy of sunshine and communicates happiness.  It recharges, energizes, revitalizes, and enhances concentration.  Having yellow in your dorm will definitely brighten your day.

Red raises a room’s energy level and stimulates conversation.  It’s a great choice if you are looking to stir up some excitement in your dorm.  Being surrounded by red will boost your energy level and increase metabolic activity.

Pink is a romantic color that is more tranquilizing than red.  It soothes, acquiesces while it promotes friendliness and affection. So if you are a girly girl who wants an approachable room then use pink as part of your color scheme for your dorm.

Blue enhances clear thinking, diligence and organization.  It is also considered relaxing, serene, and is known to have a calming effect.  People are more productive when surrounded by blue, so if you need motivation to do school work but also want a tranquil, relaxing atmosphere, blue is the color for you.

Green is believed to relieve stress by helping people relax and it is also considered the most restful color for the eye.  It encourages unwinding but is warm enough to encourage comfort and togetherness.    Green is associated with nature, health, and peacefulness, so If you find yourself constantly stressed about your classes green is the color for you.

Orange evokes excitement, enthusiasm and is a very energetic color.  It’s a lively color associated with warmth.  If you want to have a cheerful dorm room that stimulates conversation then choose an orange quilt or duvet cover from Moxii!
